My mission with my maternity coaching is to support working mums find a sense of ease and balance across both their professional and personal lives.
There’s this idea and even an expectation that being a working mum involves constant juggles, where you’re busy and exhausted all the time with very little time for yourself.
And yes, there is truth in this – it’s hard when all of a sudden you have two competing priorities which are both really important to you, where just one of those priorities could feasibly keep you totally busy for the entire day.
It’s hard when we’ve grown up in a society that says we can have it all, but it’s exhausting trying to keep progressing in your career and also be a brilliant mum – especially when we no longer have the support system that our mothers and grandmothers used to have and also when our babies don’t sleep.
I also think the transition period, when you go back to work can be especially hard- you’ve just had a life changing experience giving birth and raising a child, and then all of a sudden you’re thrust back into your workplace, almost as if nothing has changed….so no wonder so many of us experience feelings of anxiety, loss of confidence and overwhelm when we go back to work.
And these feelings may not present themselves immediately, I personally really looked forward to going back and facing new challenges – and certainly for the first 6 months I really enjoyed it. But it was around the 9 month mark that my confidence started to waver and I started to feel overwhelmed. I personally was in denial about my new identity as a working mum and for me it took that long for me to accept that yes, this is my life now and there is seemingly a never ending to do list everywhere around me. I felt an enormous amount of pressure to get things right, whatever that was, and I was totally exhausted.
But it doesn’t have to be this way, it took me a good few years but we can make a choice to do things differently. So, my hope and intention in working with you is for you to feel empowered to create a more balanced life, where you can let go of any habits that are draining you physically, mentally and emotionally and invite more ease into your life. This doesn’t mean that you’re all of a sudden going to downgrade what you do at work or in the home in any shape or form – if anything by letting go of these behaviours you’ll feel more productive and more energised, as well as feeling that you have more space and balance within you.
